Zhangjiang Phase IV Research Park

Delivered programming and design development services for a major new technology park in Shanghai, China, totaling 2.28 million square feet.

The phased campus for semiconductor research includes Office, Laboratory, Hotel and Convention buildings. Team included Interface Engineering, HDR, Inc. and Xian Dai (local design bureau) with whom I worked closely in Portland and Shanghai to develop advanced sustainable systems for the project, including ice storage, ground water loop, PV and solar hot water energy saving systems. Targeted to become the first LEED Platinum project in China, and the world's largest LEED project by area, the development will make use of advanced engineering strategies and integrated sustainable site design. My knowledge supported the owner's desire to be a pioneer in a burgeoning green movement in China.

· Designed and prepared winning proposal for commission in competion with sustainability leaders from Germany and Japan.

· Developed high–level eco–industrial development planning principles encompassing LEED ND infrastructure and land use policies.

· Identified and resolved differences in regulatory, cultural and practical design standards as well those affecting Chinese and American design team coordination.

Commission for a major technology park comes as the result of a design competition with firms from Germany and Japan. The project defines a new entrance to the Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park and will consist of more than 2.28 million square feet of development in multiple buildings surrounding a central, park-like water feature. Team included Interface Engineering and Perron Collaborative, with whom I worked closely to develop advanced sustainable systems for the project, including ice storage, ground water loop, PV and solar hot water energy saving systems. Targeted to become one of the first LEED Platinum certified projects in China, the development will make use of advanced engineering strategies and integrated sustainable site design to achieve the highest rating from the US Green Building Council. To date, only a handful of projects in China have received any LEED certification. Efforts support the Chinese government's focus on environmental concerns and reflects the project owner's desire to be a pioneer in China's burgeoning green movement.
